Why today
Sri Lanka's most important Buddhist shrine — worship centres on the sacred relic chamber, not a displayed tooth.
Time to spend
1 hr 45 min · depart 10:35
Cost (for two)
  • LKR 2,500 per Indian/SAARC adult (from 1 Jul 2026)

What to expect
Security checks, shoes off, covered shoulders and knees, hot paving, and puja crowds — socks help on the stone floors.

The two-hour visit gathers the garden’s strongest sequence: orchid house, palm avenues, giant Java fig, then the river edge. The palm avenues are especially photogenic around midday when you can avoid the backlight.

Expect heat, long paths, monkeys and sudden rain; a paid electric cart is available if walking is uncomfortable.

~13:20–14:00Lunch near the Peradeniya gate
Around 13:20, lunch is a short pause near the gate before the return drive into Kandy. Optional Spa Ceylon at KCC sits on the way back into town after the gardens.

Shopping

~14:05Drive back toward Kandy · drop at Kandy City Centre
🚗 25–35 mins · ~7.5 km · arrive KCC ~14:35
14:40–15:15 Spa Ceylon · Kandy City Centre Optional
Spa Ceylon boutique setting — colonial arcade style similar to Colombo Dutch Hospital store
Spa Ceylon brand boutique · KCC Level 3 (Colombo arcade shown for brand feel)

This is a brief boutique stop rather than a spa treatment. Compact Ceylon tea bath items, sleep balm, or a small fragrance set travel well; keep liquids for checked baggage.

This short stop fits comfortably into 30–35 minutes after the gardens. The Level 3 store is open 10:00–20:00 and accepts cards. Skip if you prefer to rest longer at Queen's before the show.

💡 Useful Tips
  • Arrive ~20 minutes before the 09:30 puja for the full ceremony
  • If the day feels long, a quiet lakeside dinner is a lovely alternative to the show — your seats are paid, so only if you truly prefer rest
  • Pack swimwear tonight — tomorrow's transfer to Nilaveli leaves after checkout
The temple at morning light, orchids at midday, drums at dusk — Kandy at its most complete.
